for Important News

Febuary 1, 2023- Please bare with me as I am moving to another server...Again! It takes time to do so as
I have had a stroke but that does not effect my dogs!

Also, it takes time to relearn any new hosting server and set up the files!

Another Important Notice! (September 1, 2021)

On September 1, 2021 the UKC (United Kennel Club) has made the Acquisition of the FDSB effective Immediately. Such transition can be only noted on the American Fields web site by inspecting thier Logo and the official announcement can be seen in the link below!
FDSB - https://americanfield.villagesoup.com/p/official-announcement-regarding-american-field-publishing-company-and-the-united-kennel-club/1896670?fbclid=IwAR0sX7zOXlpU-TiE2RmL5HDsKOZehuvBuNG919R3ohtxvr_7UUUqYPKD6mM

According to the UKC (website) statement found on the (UKC's September 1,2021 sporting news) section:
https://www.ukcdogs.com/all-breed-sports-news
the transition will not effect the integrity of the Llewellin Setter status or name and we all can be assured of the continuation of the dogs prestige and registry in the years to come. As stated on the UKC web-site -

UKC: “We received several questions and concerns from the Llewellin Setter community. Find comfort in the fact that our intent is to continue to maintain the standards set forth by FDSB for the registration of Llewellin Setters. Dogs not verified through DNA profiles and in accordance with current registration rules and policies will not be brought into the registry as Llewellin Setters. In addition to Llewellin Setters, a few other breeds were previously recognized exclusively by either FDSB or UKC. It is our vision moving forward that the joining of our two registries will open doors to some new opportunities for several breeds that did not previously exist.”

https://www.ukcdogs.com/article/ukc-american-field-follow-up-article?news_id=1

Likewise, as the owner of Dickens Llewellin’s, I will still strive to maintain the standards of integrity in my Llewllin breeding practices as well as that based on the past FDSB rules and regulations. Keep in mind! Since the UKC acquisition is quite new (at the time of this notice) Dickens Llewellin’s will also be reviewing and restructuring as to incorporate any new policies and standards set forth or inherited by the UKC/FDSB transition as to maintain compliance and to continue the integrity of the Llewellin Lineage.

In saying and reporting all the above, as the transitions occurs (if any noticeable) please be aware that any claims made on the Dickens Llewellin web-site reflce that of the FDSB and does not include any new updates in regards to the UKC transition or policies at this time as they have yet to be established, announced, made public, intergrated or reviewed.
As with any new adjustments, it will take some time for any modifications and adjustments to become known and appear on my web-site.

Please be patient and understand it will be a new venture and transition for everyone.

Meet Llewellin Setter Parents

The Llewellin Setters shown below are the potential parents to Current and Future litters,.

Note: Per FDSB rules and guidelines, Both Male and Female Llewellin Setter must be Registered and DNA verified to officially trace back to 3 specific Llewellin Setters (Duke, Robe and Kate of the 1800's) before breeding. Only then can they be bred and the litter registered as a Llewellin Setter. I conform to this and other rules of the FDSB.

Male Llewellin Setter's

Llewellin Setter™ ™©
Sir Sampson
  • Age/birth - 2013
  • Weight - 55 lbs
  • Shoulder Height - 26 "
  • Sex - Male
  • Color - Tri W,Blk/Tan Ticked
  • Natural Backer - Yes
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Sam is DNA Verified and Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter. He is noted as a Tricolor with his primary color (always) White and secondary colors are Black Patching. In his dominate ticking it is very Black (not blue) with a limited amount of Tan ticking about the face and/or legs.
Sam carries in his Pedigree 1st 2nd 3rd 4th generation a strong linage of Lynnhill’s and Count Gladstone Wind’em D’Hurlain Pre bloods, as well as some other well known names.

There is no mistaken Sampson (Sam) in the field; as you can tell from his photo that he is of a large build, very proud in his posture and has a beautiful coat, but that is of less topic as he dominates field every time he is on the hunt. In saying that Sam it the Alpha of my brace.

Sam possesses an intense nose for scents and is relentless in his searches as he keeps his own pace, thus he is not distracted by the other dogs during group hunts. He has quick eyesight and other sense that seems to be tuned into his surroundings as he not only scents the ground, he searches the fields, trees and skies as well. He has a fine hearing ability but that becomes a selective like hearing and attitude while hunting as he gets caught up in his duties. In his intelligence, it is almost as if he is a mind reader as he picks up quickly the task or commands given under most all circumstances.

As for Sam’s demeanor in hunting he is all work and no play as he is constantly on the prowl looking for birds! Brush, briers, thick Tennessee honeysuckle … nothing stands in the way as he will tunnel and bull doze into the thickest of brush. Only once has he ever been stopped but that was by a pile of thorn tree limbs stacked so thick you could not even reach through with your finger! You cant blame him for that one. On live bird points, and although I have trained “Whoa”, there is no need as Sam is DEAD ICE COLD, when frozen on point!

During free time, Sam loves to clown and play around and carries a excitable, taunting playful nature, and he is still a big loving puppy at heart and will cuddle up in my lap or at my feet when relaxing. In short, he is very good at this job of fetch and loves all the special attention he can get...then again there's not one of my Llewellins that doesn't starve for attention every second of the day.

Everyone who has hunted with Sampson and I, seems to favor his company above my other Llewellins; I don't get it as they are all great hunters, but there is just something about him that wins everyone’s preference!

If Sam has any fault, it is that he will often pause in his proud pointing position momentarily while analyzing the brush in sight, scent, and sound. Those who do not know better will say he is on point (a false point) but they will quickly come to realize he will not hold it very long. If nothing is there he moves on in disappointment. The fault is that this slows down his hunting somewhat, but at the same time he is very through in covering an area. However, when the scent of a game bird is amiss, his nature quickly changes and he becomes a “Search and Destroy Bird Hunting Machine!

    Ridge Sunny
  • Age/birth - 2013
  • Weight - 50 lbs
  • Shoulder Height - 25 "
  • Sex - Male
  • Color - Orange and White
  • Natural Backer - Yes
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Sunny is DNA Verified and Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter. He is noted as a White and Orange with his primary color (always) White and secondary colors being Orange. In his ticking it is mild orange showing on his body and becomes more rusty visible only when he is damp.
Sunny carries in his Pedigree 1st 2nd 3rd 4th generation a strong linage of Lynnhill’s and Count Gladstone Wind’em D’Hurlain Pre bloods, as well as some other well known names.

Sunny is another of my Llewellin’s that cannot be mistaken in the field; he is known as an Orange and white and has a beautifully marked lighter coat. He has a good stance and posture of medium build as you can see in the photo (backing), but he is not a show boat per-say he is a high performance hunter!

When Sunny enters the field you will have a hard time keeping up with his pace as he possesses a high energy nature about him, thus he will cover a larger area very quickly looking for scents and birds. He does not lack in sighting and scenting abilities and is known to search the trees and skies for signs as well.

As for his sighting ability; I often see him bolting straight towards a distant leaf or other object thinking it is a bird only to alter his path once he has identified the mistaken. Spite his fast pace; He possesses a strong nose for finding scents and he will not pass by a game bird scent. Once the scent is found, he will slow down and go into his birdy “Search and Destroy” mode until he finds the bird.

He also has a fine hearing ability that presents a note of conditional consideration as he listens extremely well while he tunes into birds when hunting. In commands, he appears not to be listening as he is always on the run, but…he does! Hand commands, Whistle, calls are all being processed on the fly and at high speed… so it takes him a second or two to respond! However, as with all, when on birds he is more focused on the job at hand, pointing!

In his intelligence, it is equal if not higher than the others as he seems to process on the fly/run. He also knows and picks up quickly the task or commands given under most all circumstances. As for his demeanor in hunting, he is a ball of energy waiting to be unleashed on game birds! In the brush, briers, thick Tennessee honeysuckle, he will dive right in and tunnel into the thickest briers to get at his game!

If Sunny has fault in any area, it is the fact that he is intelligently all work and no play even in his free play time. Occasionally he has surprised me and actually played fetch without flaw, but normally he will not bother to fetch a ball or scented dummy as it is of no interest to him. However, if it is a downed bird or large pork bone there is no issues with his fetch and retrieves and he will respond eagerly and very quickly.

Llewellin Setter
  • Pedigree - coming soon!
Ice Steel Blue
  • Age/birth - 2016
  • Weight - 39 lbs
  • Shoulder Height -25"
  • Sex - Male
  • Color - Tri W,Blk/Tan Ticked
  • Natural Backer - Sometimes
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Blue is one of my upcoming Llewellin's that I have been watching very closely. He is named by his disposition when pointing birds as well as his colors.

Blue is Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter and is DNA Verified, thus he is ready for service. Although Blue is noted as a Tricolor with his primary color (always) White and secondary colors are Black Spot(s).

Blue is more white with one black patch at his hind quarters, but the ticking is more mildly speckled an evenly dispersed in small amounts of black and tan ticking.
Like the others he carries in his Pedigree 3rd 4th and 5th generations linage of Lynnhill’s and Count Gladstone Wind’em D’Hurlain Pre bloods, as well as some Blizzards/Dejango bloods.

I have slowly been evaluating Blue's natural abilities and seen many impressive qualities that make me proud of his selection. However I have yet to address and summarize many of his finer points as I have neglected much of his training, there just does not seem to be a need. Blue has been easy to work with and has my confidence in his abilities and seems to read me and knows what I want from him, thus I have few complaints. As for being a natural backer (honoring other pointing dogs), I have witnessed his display of natural backing (honor's) on many occasions. Natural backing is important as it is the foundation of any of my dogs.

As for Blues physique, he has a pronounced cone at the back top of his head which I feel is an indication of some stronger (unexplainable) genetic trait of the Bird Dog and Setter breeds. So far so good on my all my suspicions as I named him by my witness when pointing birds! Blue appears to have a slightly longer leg (1.5 inches) and due to this his strides appear to be more a laid back, but when he runs he is covering distance and ground. In saying that, Blue (now an adult) stands just a about 1 inch taller than the others but I don't see much difference in shoulder to back height when they stand side by side.

On bird points, Blue is Ice cold thus his official name "Ice Steel Blue", and in other areas he is a (nose to the air and ground) hunter. He is also a natural backer (honor) as I have seen him and the others come together honoring on a single; One dog on point- Blue and 4 others backing without a single command uttered! It just sends a chill down your spine every time you see a scene like that!

Obie Whan
  • Status- Maturing Breeder
  • Age/birth - 2017
  • Weight - 20+ lbs
  • Shoulder Height -18"
  • Sex - Male
  • Color - White, Orange Ticked
  • Natural Backer - Potential
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

(Obie Wahn- OBie) is my pick of males from a litter and he is the future breeder in about 2-3 years (2019-2020) as my Kennel is still (ever) growing. "O-B" has a lot of Orange on his body and face, but above all shows quite a lot of potential as a pup. In fact his Bird-Drive is very high..... just like his Energy level and disposition.

Obie is a ever flowing river of Drive, Fire and Desire for the birds! He is such a highly wound powerhouse, many times I will only let him out on a check cord, otherwise he will spend most of his "free time" circling and pointing the Quail and Pheasant in the cages disturbing their leisure's. I want to see the display of these traits and instincts as it has a stronger pro than a lesser con! But at the same time, I much rather see him in the field exercising, building up his muscle mass, burning off some energy, using and hoaning his nose and other intincts. However, Obiee does not seem to like free time and favors hunting for birds over goofing off in the filed where fewer (if any) birds are hiding!

I think the comment and logic: "Why fish a large lake for one fish swimming around while there is a small pond with a 1000 fish just waiting to be caught?" best describes Obie's Llewellin Setter logics and attitude. But in saying the above, there are times Obie will ignore the pens and move into the fields to explore the territory.
There just has to be birds to entertain him!

A true account!
At 8 months old I took Obie out in the fields one late evening to chase some birds around and many of them were flying back and forth from two cedar trees about 100 feet apart (good exercise)! Occasionally, a Bald Egle will visit the areas sky, so when it does come to visit I will remain still as it is shy and will usually glide away if it notices me.
So when I saw Obie Staring at the sky; I thought for sure the Eagle had come for a visit and Obie was getting an eye full of it's magnificence somewhere just over my shoulder! For several minutes I watched silently as Obie stood still staring at the sky! So I slowly turned to witness the Bald Eagle myself before it disappeared.
As I looked up, I saw no Eagle gracing the evening sky! Instead... Obie was staring at a passenger Jet flying high in the sky!

If only he could catch it!

In my own evaluations, any of the (few) critiques on my part are premature as Obie is still a young Llewellin Setter pup and coming into his own. I know that as Obie matures such will polish out over the period of time with experience and ongoing training. Like any kid or Llewellin Setter, if you repress and take the fun, excitement and curiosity away, it ruins the magic!

Outside the above, at one year old Obie is still a pup in my eyes and there is still plenty of time, I am just working on his training slowly (Come, Here, Whoa, field, fetch and retrieve, break, etc) as I want his drive undamaged! Like I said "He is a powerhouse of endless drive" and if I am correct, like Santa clause....
You better watch out Obie is coming to town and when he is Finished and Unleashed and.... Bring a buddy along to carry the birds!!!!!!

"I have no intentions on hunting Passenger Jets!"

Female Llewellin Setter

First Lady
  • Age/birth - 2013
  • Weight - 43 lbs
  • Shoulder Height -24"
  • Sex - Female
  • Color - Tri W,Blk/Tan Ticked
  • Natural Backer - Yes
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Lady Girl is DNA Verified and Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter. She is noted as a Tricolor with her primary color (always) White and secondary colors are showing as Black. Lady's’ ticking it is predominately about her body as mild/soft Black or Blue, with a mild amount of Tan ticking on the face and legs.

Lady carries in her Pedigree 1st 2nd 3rd 4th  5Th generation, a strong linage of Lynnhill’s and Count Gladstone Wind’em D’Hurlain Pre bloods, as well as some other well known names.

Lady Girl is of a healthy medium/large build having a coat that is well marked with ticking. In her secondary colors, she does not have any larger solid colors but as you can tell from the photo, she is beautifully marked. In her posture she holds proudly depending on terrains and I consider her very versatile.

Like every female she has two sides, thus she lives for hunting and loves getting burrs in her hair! Make no mistake about this girl, she is fast and has the energy to prove it. She has a keen nose for the enemy "Birds" and is very persistent, plus shows a strong desire to hunt! She is also a sight seeker as I have observed her running straight for a distant leaf tumbling in the fields, only to stop on false point for about 3 seconds while she determined it was not a bird, and then speed past once no scent is detected. Her senses "or common sense" is remarkable.

Lady is a mix of hunting styles as she will run the field or hit the brush and I refer to her as a "High-Low". When Lady finds a scent her points are the desirable “Ice Cold” points. Depending on terrain: in open field or where cover is not abundant, Lady tends to points Low as if not to spook the birds; in higher brush and wooded areas, she tends to points high in full stance.

She displays hunting style that is unique among Setters and is very versatile in her techniques and patterns depending on the terrain. One of the amazing things I have witnessed is her standing on hind legs trying to reach into a tall cedar tree to find here nemesis fluttering about within. Like the others Lady is very smart, listens and responds to her training and commands very well.  Lady is simply Amazing!

Lady has no faults that I can note, then again she is my lady.

After her recent litter and continuing her training, I sat down to cool off while allowing Lady some free time. Above petting and being by my side, she chose to keep hunting. As I became indulged in my break, she disappeared in the distant wooded brush, nowhere to be seen! 15 minutes later I found her just beyond the area where she disappeared, "Frozen on Point" waiting on me to come and flush the bird she was holding!

What more can you Ask for?

Shelly's Ridge
  • Age/birth - 2014
  • Weight - 40 lbs
  • Shoulder Height -21"
  • Sex - Female
  • Color - Tri W,Blk/Tan Ticked
  • Natural Backer - Sometimes
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Shelly Girl is DNA Verified and Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter. She is noted as a Tri-color with her primary color (always) White and secondary colors are showing as Black. Shelly's’ ticking it is dominate about her body as mild/soft Black or Blue, with a mild amount of Tan ticking on the face and legs.

Shelly carries in her Pedigree 1st 2nd 3rd 4th  5Th generation, a strong linage of Lynnhill’s and Count Gladstone Wind’em D’Hurlain Pre, Shoe Leathers, as well as some other well known names.

Shelly is unique in many ways. She is of a short/medium coat, and at 38 lbs she is of small build and her posture is unmistakable in the fields as she has more of a straight head high point. Shelly’s coat has one  solid secondary spot but she is heavily ticked; everyone who sees her, loves her markings and refers to here as the cute, lovable, freckled faced little girl.

Shelly girl is another of my "Prides" and appears to have all the right stuff as she is full of bursting energy and instincts. To exaggerate on Shelly, it is to best describe her nature and abilities as I have somewhat come to see her as the Wonder Dog of my Kennel.

With Shelly, you cannot lay any one finger on a particular instinct or quality as they seem to shine effortlessly when afield. In her natures, she is the close quarter hunter as well as a distant runner/hunter; she is a scenter (like all the rest). She will stay within good sight and hunting range and covers the area very well with her natural circular pattern in which she comes back as if to check in; With a quick pat on the back she is off again!

In Her natural desires for hunting, her speed is equal to that of the others and her nose proves to pick up the scents equally well if not better. Just like my other Llewellin Setters, Shelly has no issues and will dive into thickets without hesitation when she is on the prowl, scents, see’s or hears something that strikes her instinct curiosity.

She is also a trickster with remarkable jumping and standing abilities. I have seen here scent and pointing birds in all terrains, but in cedar trees she will often stand on hind quarters and with some grace, appear to try and climb in the cedar to get to the birds. Standing only 21 inches tall at the shoulder, she will run and jump up and/or climb on top of a 5 foot round bale of hay if called. There seems to be no limits to this little girl!

In Shelly’s pointing style, it is a good head high to low with a fairly straight tail. She holds steady and cold and her pointing; it is well formed and graceful but she does display a cat stalking from time to time, but a quick "whoa" will remind her I am watching. I watched her freeze on artificial scents and planted/still birds, but on moving birds I have watched her stalk and realize that she is "All that" rolled into one small package. She is the Shell…y bomb!

If Shelly is at fault of anything, it is my fault as she has not had as much training as the rest. Also, her head strong contempt and agility is encompassed in her playful natures. Even though she is all the above, she sometimes loves to play and taunt the others while hunting as if to say Been there Scented that, come on!
Then again, who says you can’t have fun when you are good at what you do!

At 7 month old and while in training, Shelly was picked up (thought to be homeless) when she went out of sight over a large hill near a road. Five hours later, I got the call and went to pick her up! The folks that picked her up were owners of a large hunting preserve (owning pointers) and offered to buy her on the spot.

I would not part with my Shelly Girl!~

Princess Sue Anna
  • Age/birth - 2016
  • Weight - 34 lbs
  • Shoulder Height -21"
  • Sex - Female
  • Color - Tri W,Blk/Tan Ticked
  • Natural Backer - Working on it
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Sue is one of another one of my phenomenal upcoming Females and I cannot wait to breed her to one of my Males (Sampson)! Sue is Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter and is DNA Verified. Thus she is ready for action and that is putting it lightly!!!!!!

Sue is noted as a Tricolor but she is heavily drenched in her coating and ticking which gives her the appearance of the Black, Blue and Flint like colors. If it were not for the limited amount of Tan ticking on the face and legs she would be a BLUE-Flint. Everything about her conveys that any of her offspring will have more of a dominate BLUE and hopefully some Belton's if not some Black on Whites.

Like the others sue carries in her Pedigree 3rd 4th generation a strong linage of Lynnhill’s and Count Gladstone Wind’em D’Hurlain Pre bloods, as well as some Blizzard/Dejango blood's.

There is a lot of good things I have to say about Sue as she has my full attention when released and in the fields. Sue is a speed-demon-power-pack with all the right stuff in a smaller package. On birds she has an Excellent posture's which is equal to that of her life mate Sampson.

Ironically, I have found this true in all my dogs, but it seems more noticeable in my smaller size strain and I am not the only one that feels this way! I have had many good reports on the "Pound per pound to Size" performance topic and comments from several customers as to confirm this, while others(?) I have not heard from. I guess they are to busy hunting and picking up birds!

Phone call:
The pup you sold me "Hawk" is a just a little smaller (about 2 inches in height) than my other dog that I purchased from another Kennel stock and both are about the same age. Pound per pound and size, Hawk is just a good of hunter and equals up the other. Another thing I have to say is Hawk amazing, I took both of them hunting in TX and Hawk was naturally honoring the other dog at 6 months of age! I was so proud of him, and I was telling everyone where he came from ......you have a Good Line and bloodline of dogs!

If you ever need a reference to your line, tell them to call me!

Mr. White
2017- AK.

To say the least, Sue hits the fields running and covers a lot of ground FAST as she even out runs the larger dogs. Outside of speed, boy does she have a drive for birds as I see her constantly jumping up to 5+ feet and standing on her hind legs trying to get at a bird that is hiding in a cedar tree. She does not give up on the efforts easily so I just let her work out and strengthen those hind quarters!
Still that does not mean she is not a seeker as I will find her hitting the brush and other areas in her quest for a bird, even giving chase to some tweety-bird that has the guts to test her patience. If that is not enough, I have actually saw her catch a mouth full of wild bird feathers while it was in mid-flight trying to evade her.... like I said she is FAST!

As to focus on her bird drive (game-bird drive) (if I haven't already); When released the first path Sue burns is straight to the Quail and Pheasant pens! Thanks to Sue and the others, there is a well beaten path around the cages as she cannot get enough scent to satisfy her desires! So I just let those scents and desires burn into her!

I know that Sue has natural backing (honoring) in her blood as I have seen it in every one of my dogs. But due to her energy and excitement level it is some natural trait that will have to be polished and enforced with training and commands. In saying that, I have seen honoring come in at 4 months and up to a year and a half later, but and eventually it all comes together! But (trained) better safe than sorry!

Electra Goddess
  • Status- Maturing Breeder
  • Age/birth - 2017
  • Weight - 20 lbs
  • Shoulder Height -18"
  • Sex - Female
  • Color - White,Orange
  • Natural Backer - Potential
  • FDSB Registered- Yes
  • DNA Verified - Yes

Electra is Registered by the American Field Sporting Dog Association/Field Dog Stud Book (FDSB) as a Llewellin Setter and I have been neglectful on her DNA Verified status.... But its coming and I know she will verify, so I'm in no hurry as she has a year or more before she will be allowed to mate!

In breaking my own rule "I chose Electra mainly for her colors" but her hunting and pointing instinct's are proven true as well. Electra'a most dominate color is white and she has a light Orange Patch on the left eye. The orange patch on her face blends out even lighter to her ears and appears a lighter Lemon Yellow-orange (on both ears)! Her body is almost snowball white with a faint amount of yellow-orange ticking showing on her back. Her legs show more of a darker yellow (tan) and suggest that she is going to be special in breeding/offspring.

Electra also shows quite a lot of potential! A little over one year old now, Electra tends to be a bit of the playful loudmouth female bully that likes to taunt the others and myself, so there seems to be some puppy play left in her. She is the future hunter and up-coming breeder in about 2-3 years (2019-2021) as my Kennel is still growing. But in saying that She has pointed her first wild woodcock, which buzzed in and decided to taunt her late one evening when I took her out for a training session! Later in the summer (2018), She again posed in the most perfect point I have seen to date on a covey of Bobwhites which were nesting in the edge of some brush and tall grass

Good Girl Electra!

Electra is very mischievous and is free will spirited so her training is somewhat...Interesting and fun. But she listens and trains well as she is very smart and even outwits me on a few occasions! No doubt she will be one of the dominate females, feisty, sure and full of herself. As previously stated, She tends to be the pestering bully female to the other males and she seems to favor the free time when no birds are in the area and during "free time"; but thats just the young in her. Being a female in that aspect says to me she will be more independently focused and aware when she matures to her full potential.

That sounds lame dog I'm sure and I don't want to give that impression as I have found the opposite to be true with all my Llewellin Setter Females; they all seem to come in to their instincts and drives later than the Male Llewellins Setters. Bandit, Lady, Shelly, Electra, Sue and 4 others (I cant remember their names) all displayed this disposition early on and around the same ages, while the males surpassed them at the same ages! Of course they will all hunt at young ages, but all the females seem more liad back than the males in the early stages. Thus I believe it to be true fact of nature that corelate's to the genders maturity. A few sessions on some live birds will prove and confirm anyones doubts any day of the week!

Woops! Electra has already seen some action!

I try to give an honest observation and description on the dispositions and other of all my dogs in whatever stages of maturity's "as of the current updating of this page", as well as my personal admiration, understandings, likes and dislikes to things I have noticed in each of my Llewellin's. However, it is hard to offer updates to this content on a monthly or annual basis as well as convey each of their true inner abilities and potentials as I am not graced with a "silver tung". So descriptions may be lacking, outdated or other, and the improvements not currently noted as dogs dispositions change under circumstance's, maturity, and training. For instance and example; During the hot months of summer adults and younger pups will have different drives as heat will effect their performances, just as a maturing pup will not be entirely focused on hunting, but more on discovery and playful curiosities to anything that moves.

Although it may not be mentioned in each of the above descriptions, all of my Llewellin Setters possess and display many of the same instincts, traits qualities, and potentials; it is all (and mostly) dependent upon their particular ages, maturity, experience in the fields and training levels!....
(AS well as my limitations in attempt to describe their Individual natures)

The lack of mention of any topic in their description above does not suggest a lack of high performance or their potential, I would not own them if they were anything less.
